A UFO is an Unidentified Flying Object — the classic term. UAP stands for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, which is the term the U.S. Government and Department of Defense now use officially. UAP is broader: it includes objects in the air, in the water, and crossing between the two. For our intake purposes, the terms are interchangeable.

Do I need to believe it was extraterrestrial to have a claim?

No. Our job is to evaluate the injury and the evidence — not to assign a cause. Many qualifying claims involve objects of completely unknown origin: domestic, foreign, classified, or otherwise. The legal question is whether you were injured and whether a responsible party can be identified or compelled to disclose.

You are not going to be laughed at. We've taken intake calls from commercial pilots, ranchers, ER nurses, a retired Air Force officer, and at least one very calm grandmother in Nebraska. Then we are in the harder, more interesting territory of unknown-origin claims: preserving physical evidence, securing radar and FLIR data through public-records requests, documenting medical findings, and identifying any human or governmental entity that may bear responsibility. It is not a fast process. It is not a hopeless one.

If anyone — federal, state, military, contractor, or otherwise — contacts you about your encounter, write down the date, time, names, agency affiliation, and what they said, and tell us immediately. Crop-circle-type ground effects — soil chemistry changes, vegetation kill patterns, soil compaction inconsistent with any known equipment — have been documented in agricultural settings for decades. We'd want soil samples taken before remediation, photographs with a scale reference, GPS coordinates, and a timeline. If livestock were affected, see the next section.

My truck's electrical system died right when the lights flew over. Who pays for that?

If we can identify the operator — military, contractor, civilian drone, experimental aircraft — that party (or its insurer) is potentially liable for the property damage and any consequential losses. If the operator cannot be identified, recovery becomes harder, but auto and homeowner's policies sometimes provide first-party coverage for 'mysterious disappearance' or unexplained damage. We review your policies as part of intake.

I have a burn mark on my roof / hood / fence in a shape that doesn't match anything terrestrial. What now?

Do not clean it. Do not paint over it. Photograph it with a ruler in frame, note the date and time, write down any witnesses, and call us. Physical evidence is the single most valuable thing in an unknown-origin property claim, and it has a short shelf life.

Both, potentially. From the insurance company's perspective it starts as an auto claim — you were driving, there was damage, there were injuries. The unidentified aerial cause becomes relevant when (a) the at-fault driver was not at fault in a conventional sense, (b) your own coverage limits the recovery, or (c) we can identify a third party — a drone operator, military contractor, or experimental aircraft program — who actually caused the EM event. Tell us everything; we'll sort the theory of liability.

What if I swerved to avoid something in the sky and hit another car?

Accepted Answer

You can still recover — Florida is a comparative-negligence state, meaning fault can be apportioned. The 'phantom vehicle' or unknown-cause-of-collision doctrine, plus uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, are tools we use in exactly this situation. Whether the 'phantom vehicle' was a Honda or a 30-foot tic-tac is a question of evidence, not a bar to recovery.

I have dashcam footage of something I can't explain right before the crash. Do I send it to you?

Yes — but preserve the original first. Pull the SD card, make at least two copies, write down the device make/model and timestamp settings, and store the original somewhere safe. Then share a copy with us. Original digital evidence is fragile and easily lost; we don't want a chain-of-custody problem later.

My self-driving car / robotaxi crashed and the AV company is blaming a 'sensor anomaly.' Is that a case?

Almost certainly. Autonomous-vehicle product-liability claims are a growth area for us. 'Sensor anomaly' is often code for 'our system encountered something it wasn't trained on and failed.' What that something was — pedestrian, deer, drone, or other — is a fact question. The manufacturer's duty to design a system that handles unexpected inputs is not.

Classified information is, by definition, exempt from FOIA. However, FOIA can produce significant unclassified records: incident reports, radar logs, base operations records, contractor communications, and policy documents. The Mandatory Declassification Review process is sometimes also available. We use both.

What if there's foreign material in my body that doctors can't identify?

We coordinate with imaging specialists and, when surgical removal is medically indicated, ensure a chain of custody is maintained for the object so it can be properly analyzed. Do not throw it away. Do not let anyone — including federal personnel — take it without legal counsel present.
